Natalie Portman Old Enough To Have A Kid

Get ready to feel old: Natalie Portman is old enough to have a stepson. The adorable star of Garden State and Star Wars is, in the weird world of Hollywood casting, ready for marriage and kids with her role in Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, an independent drama based on the Ayelet Waldman novel.

Variety reports that Jennifer Lopez had originally agreed to star but dropped out suddenly, leaving the entire film's future in peril. Explained the movie's producer David Molner, "We were left in the lurch by one actress and rescued by another. It goes to show that, particularly with independent features, nothing is more important than the talent."

It's hard to imagine any movie in which Jennifer Lopez can easily be replaced by Natalie Portman, but maybe that means the movie will be more interesting for it. Even though the plot is about a woman saving her marriage by bonding with her stepson, it doesn't sound entirely generic, and Portman isn't known for signing on for the same-old same-old. Then again, she was in Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, but hey, we all make mistakes.
